Bishop Scruton has announced his retirement after 15 years as our bishop. He will retire at the end of 2012. The diocese is already moving into gear for the election of a new bishop and for the transition process (see attachments).
Please note: Our Presiding Bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori will preside at the ordination of our new bishop, and it will be on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012. This is the day before St. James' 250th celebration with the Presiding Bishop. I have been assured by Bishop Scruton that the Presiding Bishop is planning to be with us at St. James on Dec.2, 2012. So, we will carry on with our plans. It will be an amazing weekend for all of us.
On a personal note, Bishop Scruton has been a true partner with us as we have journeyed through these past three years. I cannot express how deep my gratitude is for his support. He will make his visitation to St. James on March 11, 2012, so we will have a chance to say goodbye to him as a congregation at that time. |
