Directions to St. James Episcopal Church, 352 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA
From the North—Pittsfield, Lenox, Lee and Stockbridge
- Take Route 7 south (or Route 102 west) to the center of Stockbridge. At the Red Lion Inn, turn left (south) on Route 7 and proceed towards Great Barrington. The business strip, north of the town center, will be reached in about 5 miles.
- The first traffic light in the strip is encountered at the entrance to the Barrington Plaza (Price Chopper and Kmart) which is on the left.
- The next signal is ¾ mile further south where Route 23 comes in from the left and at the point where the road makes a long 90 degree bend to the right.
- The route (now 7/23) proceeds westerly and encounters the next signal at ½ mile where 7/23 cross the Housatonic River on the “brown bridge”. Here, at the west end of the bridge, the route (now 7/23/41) makes a sharp left turn (south). In ¼ mile, another signal is encountered and then, after another ¼ mile, an illuminated time/temperature sign on the Berkshire Bank is found on the right side. From the bank, proceed for another ¼ mile (+) and find St. James on the right in the block that separates the next two traffic signals. It is just to the south of the Town Hall and just north of Bill’s Pharmacy. It is located at the corner of Main Street and Taconic Avenue.
From the South—Canaan CT and Sheffield, MA
- Route 7 north to the village of Sheffield, MA.
- After leaving Sheffield, continue north on Route 7 for about 6 miles to a traffic signal in Great Barrington where Route 7 intersects Route 23/41 coming in from the left.
- Proceed straight ahead (north) on Route 7/23/41 (Main Street) and drive for ¼ (+) miles. St. James is on the left just after Bill’s Pharmacy and just before the Town Hall. It is located at the corner of Main Street and Taconic Avenue.
From the East and Southeast--New Marlborough, MA, Sandisfield, MA and Winsted, CT.
- Take Route 57 or Route 183 to the “center” of New Marlborough at the Old Inn on the Green. From the Inn follow combined Route 57/183 for 5 or 6 miles to a point where Route 57 ends at a “T” intersection with Route 23. Turn left (west) on Route 23/183 until it joins Route 7 in Great Barrington at a “T” intersection with a traffic signal. Turn left on Route 7/23.

From the East---Otis and Monterey
- Route 23 west to Monterey. From Monterey, continue west on Route 23, past the Butternut Ski area, until it joins Route 7 in Great Barrington at a “T” intersection with a traffic signal. Turn left on Route 7/23.
- Follow the directions under the fourth bullet of “From the North--Pittsfield, Lenox, Lee and Stockbridge” (above).
From the East—Boston, Worcester and Springfield
- Massachusetts Turnpike to Exit 2 in Lee.
- West on Route 102 for 4 or 5 miles to the center of Stockbridge and the intersection with Route 7.
- Follow directions above for “From the North—Pittsfield, Lenox, Lee and Stockbridge”
From the West—Hillsdale, NY and South Egremont, MA
- Route 23 east from Hillsdale, NY, into Massachusetts
- Follow Route 23/41 through the village of South Egremont
- After leaving South Egremont, proceed eastward 3 or 4 miles on Route 23/41 until it joins Route 7 in Great Barrington at a “T” intersection with a traffic signal.
- Turn left (north) on Route 7/23/41 (Main Street) and after ¼ (+) miles, find St. James on the left just after Bill’s Pharmacy and just before the Town Hall. It is located at the corner of Main Street and Taconic Avenue.
From the Northwest—Albany, NY area
- East on I-90 to Exit B3 in Canaan, N.Y.
- South on Route NY 22 for about nine miles to intersection with Route 71
- Bear left on Route 71 and cross into Massachusetts. Proceed 4 or 5 miles southeast to the village of North Egremont. About 3 miles after leaving North Egremont, Route 71 ends at a “T” intersection with Route 23/41. You are now in Great Barrington.
- Turn left (east) on Route 23/41. Drive about 2 miles until Route 23/41 joins Route 7 at a “T” intersection with a traffic signal.
- Turn left (north) on Route 7/23/41 (Main Street) and, after ¼ (+) miles, find St. James on the left just after Bill’s Pharmacy and just before the Town Hall. It is located at the corner of Main Street and Taconic Avenue.
