St. James' music minister, Charles Olegar, has just come out with his latest CD, "Bach and Beyond II". While celebrating the incredibly rich and varied tonal palette of St. James's 2006 Ahlborn- Galanti organ and exciting repertoire from our Bach and Beyond organ recital series, Olegar's new CD evenmoreso celebrates, as his collaborators, some of St. James' wealth of talent : Several Gregorian chants attending a 20th c. French organ suite are sung by a "Schola Cantorum" comprising our very own Tom Farnam, Fred Harrison, Fritz Lord, and Tim Boomer, who also delivers exceptional solo cantoring; in a remarkable pairing of piquant short organ preludes by French modernist Darius Milhaud with a similarly-spirited poem by Arthur Rimbaud, St. James' "poet in residence" Michael Houlihan provides stylish, vivid recitation. And, of course, there is the incomparable music of Johann Sebastian Bach, along with César Franck's lovely "Prelude, Fugue, and Variation" and a witty mid-20th c. piece by Hartford composer Edward Diemente.
